Media Training

Media Training for Athletes

The camera goes on, the reporter steps forward, and the athlete who is not prepared either goes blank or says something they wish they had not. Media training for athletes prepares athletes for postgame interviews, press conferences, and sponsor video appearances so they control their message before someone else does.

Cassandra produced and directed The Loud Silence on Fox Sports, a documentary on athlete mental health featuring Heisman Trophy winner and NFL quarterback Caleb Williams of the Chicago Bears and WNBA player Destiny Littleton, in association with the Caleb Cares Foundation.

Who this is for

This course is for college and professional athletes, athletic departments preparing their rosters, and coaching staff who want their players ready for the media side of their sport. NIL deals are increasingly media-facing, and athletes who can show up on camera with confidence and a clear message are more valuable to sponsors.

What athletes practice

The course covers the interview formats athletes actually face: the postgame, the press conference, the individual feature interview, and the short sponsor video or social media clip.

Athletes practice:

Leading with a clear statement rather than waiting for the next question
Staying composed under repeated or adversarial questions
Bridging away from questions they should not answer toward the message they want on the record
What to do in front of a sponsor camera or a social video shoot, which is different from a press conference
Record and playback drills so athletes can see exactly what the camera picks up

Team and program licenses

A team license covers a roster or a group. It includes a facilitator guide so a communications director, SID, or coaching staff member can run sessions in-house, a question bank with press conference and postgame scenarios, and certificates of completion per participant.

For athletic departments training across multiple teams or programs, the right starting point is a CMarie Call.
